Filler Dissolving

There are many reasons for dissolving, often patients will come to us from others clinics seeking dissolving of previous work.

Lots of patients have their filler dissolved, often to erase the previous work and get back to a blank canvas. Once the filler is completely dissolved and swelling has subsided – usually after about two weeks – it is safe to have filler injected again in the same area. Product migrations is a common reason for filler to move into other areas, a patient's anatomy and how it functions will play a large role on where and how filler will settle. Other reasons including lumps and emergency reversal, this is where hyaluronic acid fillers are considered safer than other fillers on the market as we have the antidote to reverse them known as Hyaluronidase. An emergency case is where filler in unintentionally injected into a blood vessel.

What to Expect

We will carry out an allergy patch-test on your arm to check that you are not allergic to the enzyme. The area of treatment will be cleaned and numbing cream will be applied. Once the area is numb, and provided there was no sign of allergy, we will start the treatment. The process of injection is normally no longer than 5 minutes. After treatment, we will apply aftercare cream and discuss how best to look after the area that has been treated.

Benefits
Why get treated

There are many reasons for dissolving, often patients will come to us from others clinics seeking dissolving of previous work. Also mentioned above injecting isn’t a perfect science. There are variations in all anatomy, tissues and how filler will behave in them. With that said there are some foreseeable issues that can adjust for with placement, technique, and product, however some are beyond our control and this is where tweaking of adding more filler, or mild dissolving may be required.

Frequently Asked Questions
faq

Is dissolving dermal filler painful?
Dissolving filler is not painful. We provide numbing cream, numbing injections and skin cooling to minimise any discomfort.

Are there any side effects?
As with any injection, it is possible that you may experience some redness, swelling, tenderness and bruising. These may take a 2-3 days to resolve and bruises sometimes longer. We advise that you don’t plan treatments around important commitments and allow at least 2 weeks between treatment and an important social or work event.

Some swelling can be expected immediately (see our full advice here on lip filler swelling stages ) after the medical treatment. An ice pack can help with this, and the initial swelling will go down quite quickly. There may be minor soreness from the injections as the numbness from the topical cream wears off. Immediately after your treatment, you may have a small amount of bleeding and swelling. This is normal after skin tissue augmentations.
