Marionette Lines/Sad Smile Lines

Marionette lines, also known as ‘’Ageing Sad Mouth’’, are lines that run from the corners of your mouth down to your chin, and can make you look sad, even when you’re happy and smiling.

Marionette lines, also called melomental folds, are creases that extend from the corners of your mouth to your chin. The name comes from marionette string puppets, which have pronounced vertical lines in the same place. Facial fillers are very effective at dealing with deep wrinkles such as marionette lines. They gently plump out the wrinkles, resulting in a smoother appearance. Dermal fillers can also be used to add volume to your cheeks, replacing the diminishing fat pads in that area. This treatment will lift your skin and, as a result, reduce the appearance of marionette lines.

What to Expect

Dermal fillers temporarily add volume to your face to smooth out lines and wrinkles. There isn’t one filler that’s best for marionette lines. In general, dermal fillers may help with mild to moderate marionette lines. But they might also create an unnatural look. Dermal fillers are injected in the area between the chin, jawline and corner of the mouth to re-contour the area, provide support to the corners of the mouth and reduce the appearance of the marionette shadows.

Benefits
Why get treated

Improve collagen production – dermal fillers can improve collagen production and this means that the skin will be able to heal and replenish, just like younger skin. With an increase in volume, your skin will naturally become fuller, reducing the appearance of any lines, like marionette lines.

Frequently Asked Questions
faq

How many sessions will I need?
Optimal results can often be achieved in one to two session. If you require further treatment, then this is normally done after 2 weeks to allow any swelling or bruising to dissipate.

How long do the results last?
The longevity of results will often depend on the area treated, product used and individual metabolism. On average, most patients will only need to repeat treatment once every 9-12 months.

As with any injection, it is possible that you may experience some redness, swelling, tenderness and bruising. These may take a 2-3 days to resolve and bruises sometimes longer. We advise that you don’t plan treatments around important commitments and allow at least 2 weeks between treatment and an important social or work event.
